Agency answers request for new trajectory of non-technical losses for CELPA

The Board of Directors of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica – ANEEL) accepted this past Tuesday (10/02) the plea of distributor Centrais Elétricas do Pará (CELPA) for a new trajectory of non-technical losses (power theft) for its third periodic tariff revision. With the Agency's decision, the trajectory that in 2011 and 2012 was 41.54% was reduced to 37.78% in 21013 and 34% in 2014.

The reduction of the loss trajectory was one of the claims contained in the Transition Plan of Equatorial Energia S/A to acquire control of CELPA. The concessionaire was purchased in September by Equatorial for a symbolic value of R$ 1.00, with the goal of reversing the company’s economic and financial situation.

The non-technical losses cause impacts for society with a greater energy purchase cost, lower number of paying consumer units and less tax collected due to the decrease of billed energy. Read more about losses. (PG/DB)
