The contracted where signed by interim general director of Aneel, Edvaldo Santana, and by representatives of the companies that auctioned the concessions. The minister of Mines and Energy, Edison Lob\u00e3o, presided the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The entrepreneurships, grouped in six lots, were auctioned off by four Brazilian companies, all government subsidiaries of Eletrobr\u00e1s, and a private company, with Spanish capital. The lines add up to approximately <st1:metricconverter w:st='on' ProductID='275 kilometers'><st1:metricconverterProductID w:st='on'>275 kilometers<\/st1:metricconverterProductID><\/st1:metricconverter> (<st1:metricconverter w:st='on' ProductID='170 miles'><st1:metricconverterProductID w:st='on'>170 miles<\/st1:metricconverterProductID><\/st1:metricconverter>) of extension and are designated to reinforce the National Interconnected System (Sistema Interligado Nacional &#8211; SIN). The auction&#8217;s average discount was 37.62%. See <a href='http:\/\/www.aneel.gov.br\/arquivos\/PDF\/Resultado%20do%20leil\u00e3o%20por%20lote.pdf'><b ><u><font face='Verdana'>here<\/font><\/u><\/b><\/a> the relation of the lots with their respective winning companies.<\/p>\n<p>In his pronouncement during the solemnity, Edvaldo Santana affirmed that the &#8216;signing of the concession contracts is the result of the electricity transmission segment&#8217;s success in <st1:country-region w:st='on'><st1:place w:st='on'>Brazil<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of new lines will benefit the states of Piau\u00ed, Maranh\u00e3o, Minas Gerais, <st1:City w:st='on'>Rio Grande<\/st1:City> do Sul, <st1:place w:st='on'>Bahia<\/st1:place> and Pernambuco. The entrepreneurships should go into operation between 16 and 24 months after the signing of the concession contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1998, Aneel tendered and authorized 39.5 thousand kilometers of transmission lines, of those tendered <st1:metricconverter w:st='on' ProductID='16,289.31 km'><st1:metricconverterProductID w:st='on'>16,289.31 km<\/st1:metricconverterProductID><\/st1:metricconverter> are in operation.
