They are: Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais S/A (Cemig), Centrais Elétricas Matogrossenses (Cemat), Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz (CPFL -SP), Empresa Energética de Mato Grosso do Sul S/A (Enersul), AES Sul Distribuidora Gaúcha de Energia S/A, Usina Hidro Elétrica Nova Palma Ltda (Uhenpal), Companhia de Eletricidade do Estado da Bahia (Coelba), Companhia Energética do Rio Grande do Norte (Cosern), Energisa Sergipe – Distribuidora de Energia S/A (ESE) and Companhia Energética de Pernambuco (Celpe).
Readjustments for Cemig, Cemat, CPFL Paulista and Enersul will go into effect starting April 8. For AES Sul and Uhenpal, the new index will take effect April 19. Consumers of the Coelba, Energisa Sergipe and Cosern distributors will have new tariffs on April 22. Finally, Celpe will apply its readjustment on April 29.
The companies send their readjustment request to ANEEL. This index is used as a reference for analysis by the Agency’s technical area, which later defines the percentages to be applied in a public meeting of the board. The requests are released on ANEEL’s website. See here.

The annual readjustment is one of three mechanisms for updating tariffs stipulated in contracts signed between the companies and the Federal Government with the objective of maintaining the utility’s economic-financial equilibrium. The others are the Periodic Tariff Review (RTP) and the Extraordinary Review. The RTP occurs on average every four years, whereas the extraordinary review may occur at any time, as long as the concession has a justified disequilibrium or there is the creation of a new sectorial contribution, for example.

These mechanisms are applied to permit a fair energy tariff for consumers while also being sufficient to cover service costs at quality levels stipulated by ANEEL. It must also remunerate needed investments, stimulate increased efficiency and quality of services provided by the utility and guarantee comprehensive service to the market, without geographic or income distinction.
