Interruptions in critical days generate R$35.48 million in compensations

Fonte: ANEEL
In addition to compensation for supply interruption in normal days, electricity consumers received R$35.48 million in 2012 in days considered critical by the concessionaires. R$10.8 million were paid in compensation for violation of the individual indicator of the Single Critical Day Interruption Duration by Consumer Unit (DICRI). The amount of compensation is not necessarily equal to the number of consumers compensated, since the same consumer can be compensated more than once a year.

The concessionaire that provided the highest compensation to consumers in 2012 regarding DICRI was CELG-D (GO), with a total amount of R$18.7 million. The second was AES-SUL (RS), with R$5.3 million and the third was AMPLA (RJ), which returned R$1.7 million to consumers. The information contained in the consolidated balance sheet issued by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) based on the documentation sent by the country’s distribution concessionaires. The data submitted by companies are subject to verification by the supervisory area.

This indicator was created in 2012 and aims to reduce the time of reestablishment of supply on days when the number of occurrences is much higher than average. For low-voltage consumers (homes and small businesses), for example, interruption in the supply should not exceed 12 hours on the day. In rural areas, in turn, the limit is 16 hours. When there is a violation of indicators, the distributor should financially compensate the consumer unit. The compensation is automatic and should be paid within two months after the month of calculation of the indicator (the month when the interruption occurred).
