The board of directors of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL – Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica) authorized the alteration of the implementation schedule of the Thermal Power Plant (TPP) Sepé Tiaraju, located in Canoas in Rio Grande do Sul. With the decision, the date of commencement of commercial operation of Phase II of the plant will occur on June 30, 2014.

The plant had the forecast of commencement of commercial operation of Phase II on October 31, 2012. The entrepreneur responsible company Petroleo Brasileiro S / A (Petrobras), sent a request to ANEEL to change the schedule. The Agency accepted the request to identify the appropriateness and timing of the amendment and the absence of harm to others.

The TPP uses natural gas as primary fuel and diesel as an alternative fuel. The plant has 248.5 megawatts (MW) of power. Phase I with 160.5 MW has been in commercial operation since February 19, 2008. Phase II consisting of 88 MW will become operational on June 30, 2014. (DB)
