The board of directors of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL – Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica) approved Tuesday (07/16) the extension of the schedule for the implementation of the Hydropower Plant Batalha, located on the stretch of the São Marcos river, in the municipalities of Cristalina (GO) and Paracatu (MG). The Furnas concessionaire requested the extension under the claim of delays in the issuance of environmental license for installation on part of the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources – IBAMA (Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis).
The schedule expected the entry into operation of the first generating unit by June 30, 2009. With the alteration approved by ANEEL, the first generating unit on 7/31 and the second on 8/31. (PG)
