Tariff flags relating to the month of August have been disclosed for the whole country. The yellow flag was activated for all subsystems (North, Northeast, Southeast/Center-West, and South), indicating less favorable generation conditions. If the system were to be made effective, the tariff in these regions would suffer an increase of R$1.50 for each 100 kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumed.
To facilitate understanding of the tariff flags, 2013 will be the Test Year. For educational purposes, the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) announces flags that would be in operation on a monthly basis.
In addition, the power distributors will be disclosing in the power bills the simulation of the application of flags for the subsystem of their region. Consumers can then understand what flag would apply in the current month, if the tariff flags were already in operation. Business procedures for application of tariff flags were determined by Resolution 547/2013. More information on the flags can be found here. (DB)
