ANEEL (the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency) conducted on Dec. 13, at the Electric Energy Trade Chamber (CCEE), in São Paulo (SP), Energy Auction A-5 (with supply starting within five years) for the acquisition of electric energy from new generation projects of hydroelectric, wind, solar and thermoelectric sources (biomass, coal or natural gas in combined cycle), with supply starting on May 1st, 2018. Winning projects were from the States of Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. In total, biomass-powered five thermoelectric power plants, 16 small hydroelectric power plants and 97 wind power plants sold energy in the auction.
The average sale price was R$ 109.93 per MWh (megawatt-hour). The agreements per energy quantity for hydroelectric projects had the average price of R$ 95.4 per MWh. Thermoelectric power plants by energy availability had the average price of R$ 133.75 per MWh and wind power plants, R$ 119.03 per MWh. The initial energy price of São Manoel Hydroelectric Power Plant (UHE) was R$ 107 per MWh and the sale was for R$ 83.49 MWh. The average discount of the auction was 8.67%.
