It is planned to take effect from February 2014 the white tariff mode, which will offer three different levels of power tariff for consumers supplied at low voltage in accordance with the schedules of consumption. The new modality approved by the National Electricity Agency (ANEEL) is optional and is still pending certification of electronic meter by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO). The equipment that will be installed at no cost to consumers, who opt for the White rate, allows you to record the consumption according to the times at which electrical energy is used.
In this modality, Monday to Friday, a cheaper fare will be applied at most hours of the day, and another one more expensive, at the time the energy reaches a maximum, in the early evening, and the third one, an intermediate one, will be applied between these two times. On weekends and holidays, the cheapest rate will be used for all hours of the day. The periods known as peak hours, intermediate ones and off-peak ones are approved by ANEEL in the periodic revisions of each distributer, occurring on an average of every four years.
The proposal is to stimulate consumption at times that the fare is cheaper, reducing the amount of the invoice at the end of the month and the need for expansion of the distribution network to meet peak hours. The White rate is optional, and if the consumer does not wish to modify his/her consumption habits, the Conventional rate will remain available.
Before the creation of the White rate there was only one rate, the Conventional one, which has a single value (R$ / kWh) regardless of day or time the energy was consumed.
