Launching of the second edition of the Brazilian Electric-Power Atlas

Fonte: ANEELThis week the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency – ANEEL launched the second edition of its Brazilian Electric-Power Atlas. This work brings up to date technical and socio-economic information on the electrical sector published in the first edition in 2002. Expanded to 243 pages, the publication has received improvements in the graphics and especially in the maps, tables, graphs and illustrations. The Atlas has been elaborated by the Agency itself, with the support of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and other governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Copies will be distributed to research institutions, universities, government bodies, electrical-sector entities, consumer-defense entities, consumer committees and regulatory agencies. The digital version of the new edition is already available for downloading on Aneel’s Internet site (www.aneel.gov.br).

ANEEL’s objective is to offer researchers, students, professionals and the population at large a database that can lend support to studies and research in the field of electricity. The publication contains information on institutional aspects of the Brazilian electrical system and of the generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization segments, as well as demographic and socio-economic indicators. Material on traditional and alternative power sources also make up this edition.

The first edition was awarded the “Special Publication” prize of the Brazilian Association of Business Communication (Aberje) and the “Public Opinion 2002” prize in the category ”Publications” conferred by the Regional Council of Professional Public-Relations Workers (Conrep) of the 2nd Region. The digital version, which has been available on Aneel’s Internet site ever since 2002, has registered 14 thousand downloads a month.
