Fonte: ANEELThe Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) approved today (March 18th), in a public meeting, that Manaus Energia S/A (Mesa) is taking over Companhia Energética do Amazonas S/A (Ceam). With such operation, distribution company Ceam, currently serving the interior of Amazonas State, will be extinct. All of the company’s assets and liabilities will be transferred to the property of concessionaire Manaus Energia, which will be responsible for serving approximately 616 thousand consumption units throughout Amazonas State. It currently serves only Amazonas’ capital city.
As a result of the merger, there will be different rates in the same concession area. That means that the authorized rates for Ceam in October 2007 will be used by Manaus Energia as an exception. The amounts will be unified in November 2009, when the energy rate revision of the merging distribution company will be homologated.
Manaus Energia will also be responsible for operating energy generation plants in the State. From the 107 generation central stations, the largest ones are Balbina UHE and Mauá and Aparecida UTEs. According to the approved Resolution, to be published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOU) in the coming days, the Ceam merger by Manaus Energia is supposed to take place within 60 days from the publication in the DOU.
In addition, the Agency has also approved the transfer of Mesa’s equity control, held by Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil S/A (Eletronorte), to Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S/A (Eletrobrás). The operation must be completed within 90 days from the Resolution publication in the Federal Official Gazette.
