The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) informs that the Collegiate Board of Directors met Tuesday morning (4/1) with the state representatives of Mato Grosso do Sul Jerson Domingos, president of the state’s Legislative Assembly and Paulo Côrrea, president of the Enersul PIC. In compliance with the process of transparency and broad debate with society aimed at receiving new perspectives on themes under deliberation, the Directors received the representatives in a pre-scheduled, courtesy visit.

The representatives, and Senator Delcídio Amaral in a subsequent intervention, manifested their concern that the handling of the financial effect could in the short-term have an adverse effect on the concessionaire as well as the consumers. They believe it would be more interesting to keep the tariff relatively low over a period of a few years rather than concentrate the benefit over a few months. Furthermore, they supported Aneel’s proposal in the sense of providing broad publicity to the deliberation to be made concerning the referred to financial effect, preferably mentioning it in the energy bill itself.

The Periodic Tariff Revision process for Empresa Energética do Mato Grosso do Sul – Enersul is under analysis by Aneel’s technical areas after broad-based internal discussions and contributions presented by society in the hearings (documental and presential) that precede the decision by the Collegiate Board of Directors. During this phase, the Agency makes no manifestation nor does it provide any information or sign regarding the process’ final index.

Aneel will deliberate on these and other issues related to Enersul’s revision during an extraordinary public meeting by the Board to be held next Monday (4/7). The ceremony for announcing the revision index obeys the criteria established in the Agency’s regulations. The relater director presents his/her ruling and vote on the process after analysis of the Technical Note elaborated by the Superintendence of Economic Regulation. The Federal Prosecutor operating at the Agency makes his/her manifestation, the theme is opened for discussion and after that each director announces his/her vote. It is necessary to have a majority of the five directors to announce the final decision, which will be published in the Official Federal Gazette. The Board of Director meetings are public, broadcast live over the Internet, which results in more transparency and legitimacy for Aneel’s decisions.
