Jirau HEP auction postponed

Today (4/29), the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency’s (Aneel) Special Tender Commission published (29/04) Relevant Communiqué # 2  informing the postponement of the Jirau hydroelectric plant auction until next May 19, according to the Madeira River Complex venture. This change in date fulfills Administrative Rule # 162, dated today, from the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Due to postponement of the auction, document delivery for interested companies to register shall be extended until Monday (5/12), notwithstanding the registrations made yesterday (4/28) and today (4/29). Likewise, the new date for delivering participation guarantees and receiving passwords to access the auction system will be May 14. The locations for delivering documents and guarantees will be disclosed later through relevant communiqués. The time remains from 10am to 5pm.

Timetable – The communiqué published today states that the training for the systematics and auction simulation shall take place on May 15 at 9am and 3pm, respectively. The new timetable with all date changes will be disclosed soon by the Special Tender Commission.

Auction – The auction will be promoted by Aneel and operated by the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE), under the Agency’s delegation. The guidelines approved by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) are shown in administrative rule # 36/2008. The Jirau plant will have 3,300 megawatts in installed capacity. The venture will generate energy starting January 2013, the date foreseen for the first three generating units to go into operation. The project includes the installation of 44 turbines and the reservoir area will have 258 square kilometers. The term of the contract, counted from the signing of the concession contract until final installation of the venture, is for 90 months, equal to 7.5 years. Total investment value, appraised by the Energy Research Company (EPE), for building the Jirau HEP was defined at R$ 8.7 billion, with October 2007 as the reference date.
