The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) ended today (05/08), in Cataguases (MG), the contribution phase for the public hearing for the second periodic tariff review of the distribution leaser Energisa Minas Gerais S/A (former Companhia Força e Luz Cataguazes Leopoldina S/A), started this past April 10th.

The meeting, lead by Aneel director Joísa Campanher Dutra Saraiva, counted on the participation of 81 people among representative from resident associations, Federation of the Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG), sector association, state deputies, mayors and consumers in general.

Aneel’s preliminary proposal for Energisa Minas Gerais foresees an average reduction of -4.65% for the distribution company’s tariffs. The negative index reflects the increase of productivity presented by the company and the reduction of the average capital cost, which defines the dealer’s remuneration. The definite percentage will go in effect this June 18th. Upon the divulgation of the final index the Agency will inform the review percents differentiated by consumption class. The distributor serves 341.7 thousand consumer units in 66 municipal districts in Minas Gerais and two in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Aneel received written contributions from April 10th until this past Monday (05/05). The technical note and other review documents are available at the link A Aneel-Audiências/Consultas/Fórum at the electronic address www.aneel.gov.br.

Besides Energisa Minas Gerais S/A, another 35 companies are going through the review process this year. In 2007, seven distribution leasers were submitted to the tariff review: Coelce (CE), Eletropaulo (SP), Escelsa (ES), Celpa (PA) and Elektro (SP), Bandeirante (SP) and CPFL Piratininga (SP). In 2009, it will be 17 companies and, in 2010, it will be the last two distributors in the review’s second cycle.

The tariff review is foreseen in the concession contracts to obtain the balance of tariffs based on the remuneration of the companies’ investments aimed towards distribution service rendering and expense coverage effectively recognized by Aneel. It is applied to the distribution leasers every four years, on average. More information about the review can be obtained at the link “InformaçõesTécnicas/Tarifas-Consumidores Finais/Revisão Tarifária Periódica” on the Agency’s internet page (www.aneel.gov.br).
