The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) has performed today (21/05), in Campo Largo (PR), the contributions presential step to the public hearing of the second periodic tariff review of the Companhia Campolarguense de Energia (Cocel), which was initiated last April, 30. The public hearing was conducted by Aneel’s director, Edvaldo Santana.

This meeting was attended by 48 people, which were individual consumers and entities for consumers’ defense, as well as Procon, Union of Ceramic Industry and Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Association of Campo Largo representatives.

The preliminary review average index is -9.10% (reduction). After the analysis of the contributions sent in written and collected during the hearing, Aneel will define the Cocel’s final index, which shall be effective on the next June, 24th. The distributor serves 32 thousand consumer units in the city of Campo Largo, in the State of Paraná.

The proposed tariff reduction is resulting from the company’s higher productivity and from the lower capital average cost (that defines utility’s compensation). The technical note containing the Cocel’s review proposal is available through the linkA Aneel/Audiências/Consultas/Fórum‘ in Aneel’s website (www.aneel.gov.br).

The tariff review is provided in the concession agreements to obtain tariff balance based on the companies’ investments compensation concerning distribution services and coverage of the expenses effectively recognized by Aneel. It is applied to the distribution utilities every four years, average. Further information on the review can be obtained through the linkInformaçõesTécnicas/Tarifas-Consumidores Finais/Revisão Tarifária Periódica‘ of Agency’s webpage (www.aneel.gov.br).

Besides Cocel, another 35 distributors will face the second tariff review cycle. In 2009, it will be 17 utilities. Another two companies will be submitted to this review in 2010. In 2007, seven distribution utilities faced this process: Coelce (CE), Eletropaulo (SP), Escelsa (ES), Celpa (PA), Elektro (SP), Bandeirante (SP) and CPFL Piratininga (SP).
