The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) ended today (05/30), in Poços de Caldas (MG), the contribution present body phase for the public hearing for the second periodic tariff review of Departamento Municipal de Eletricidade (DME – PC), started this past April 30th. The public hearing was lead by Aneel director José Guilherme Senna.
The hearing had 68 participants, among them consumers, town councilors, and representatives from the Commercial Association of Poços de Caldas, from the Associação Sul Mineira de Engenheiros e Arquitetos, from the Departamento de Água e Esgoto and the distributors’ representatives. Among all the participants, 16 presented contributions to the process.
The average preliminary review index was – 7.69% (reduction). After the analysis of the contributions sent in writing and collected during the hearing, Aneel will define DME’s final index, which will go in effect this coming June 28th. The distribution company serves 59,815 million consumer units in the Poços de Caldas municipal district, Minas Gerais.
The tariff reduction proposed is resulting of the company’s greater productivity and of the lower average capital cost (which defines the distribution leasers’ remuneration). The technical note with the review proposal is available on the link “A Aneel/Audiências/Consultas/Fórum” at Aneel’s electronic address (www.aneel.gov.br).
The tariff review is foreseen in the concession contracts to obtain the balance of tariffs based on the remuneration of the companies’ investments aimed towards distribution service rendering and expense coverage effectively recognized by Aneel. It is applied to the distribution leasers every four years, on average. More information about the review can be obtained at the link “InformaçõesTécnicas/Tarifas-Consumidores Finais/Revisão Tarifária Periódica” on the Agency’s internet page (www.aneel.gov.br).
Besides DME, another 35 distributors will go through the second tariff review cycle this year. In 2009, there will be 17 distribution leasers. Two more companies will be submitted to reviews in 2010. In 2007, seven distribution leasers went through the process: Coelce (CE), Eletropaulo (SP), Escelsa (ES), Celpa (PA) , Elektro (SP), Bandeirante (SP) and CPFL Piratininga (SP).
