The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved today (Sept. 9) the tariff readjustment of Celg Distribution S/A, which operates in Goiás The distributor’s new tariffs would come into force next Friday (Sept. 12), but Celg, cannot apply the readjustment because it has not paid several charges imposed by the sector.

The impediment to tariff adjustment due to debits is ensured in Article 10 of Law No. 8.631/93, which describes the tariff levels for public service electricity. Thus, the concessionaire can only apply the approved average rates of 11.04% to low-voltage (residential) consumers and 8.92% to high-voltage (industrial) consumers after payment its duties.

Until the debt settlement occurs, Celg will have to charge the consumer the residential rate in force since last year’s readjustment of $ 0.29353 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). After paying its debts and implementing the tariff adjustment approved today, Celg will charge the residential consumer the rate of $ 0.32595 kWh.

Amendment – The index initially published by Aneel was 8.89% for low voltage and 7.31% for large users. However, it was necessary to recalculate the readjustment percentage, which did not alter the final value of rate in reais. The Agency will publish in Diário Oficial da União, the Official Journal, the new date for the adjustment implementation, as soon as the payment of duties is confirmed. Celg provides electricity to about 2 million units in 237 municipal districts of Goiás consumers.
