The concession contracts for two transmission lines and seven electricity substations auctioned by Aneel in October of last year were signed today (01/28), in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The contracted where signed by interim general director of Aneel, Edvaldo Santana, and by representatives of the companies that auctioned the concessions. The minister of Mines and Energy, Edison Lobão, presided the ceremony.

The entrepreneurships, grouped in six lots, were auctioned off by four Brazilian companies, all government subsidiaries of Eletrobrás, and a private company, with Spanish capital. The lines add up to approximately 275 kilometers (170 miles) of extension and are designated to reinforce the National Interconnected System (Sistema Interligado Nacional – SIN). The auction’s average discount was 37.62%. See here the relation of the lots with their respective winning companies.

In his pronouncement during the solemnity, Edvaldo Santana affirmed that the ‘signing of the concession contracts is the result of the electricity transmission segment’s success in Brazil‘.

The construction of new lines will benefit the states of Piauí, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Bahia and Pernambuco. The entrepreneurships should go into operation between 16 and 24 months after the signing of the concession contracts.

Since 1998, Aneel tendered and authorized 39.5 thousand kilometers of transmission lines, of those tendered 16,289.31 km are in operation. This year, there is an expectation that another 6,753.65 kilometers will enter.
