Madeira River Complex LTs” contracts will be signed on February 26 at the Palácio do Planalto

The ceremony signing of the Madeira River Water Complex Transmission Lines’ contracts will be carried out next Wednesday (02/26), at 11h30, at the Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília. The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will sign the concession grant decrees and will count on the presence of the ministry of Mines and Energy, Edison Lobão, and the Civil House chief minister, Dilma Rousseff. Following that, Aneel’s interim chairman, Edvaldo Santana, and the representatives of the companies which acquired the concessions at the auction will sign the contracts.

The concessions of the seven lots offered at the bid carried out on November 26, 2008, were acquired by a private company and two consortiums which count on the participation of state-owned companies. At the first stage of the contest, the technological alternative – Direct Current (CC) – to be adopted in transmission lines and substations that are part of the interconnection of the Madeira River Water Complex plants was adopted.

With an approximately 2,375 kilometers (Km) extension for the connection to the National Interconnected System, the commercial operation of the installations is in effect for 36 to 50 months, which are counted from the signing of the concession contracts. According to the Energy Research Company (EPE), investments for all lots are estimated to be in R$7.2 billion. The transmission concessions have 30-year period.
