Auction of wind energy records an average discount of 21.49%

The National Energy Agency (Aneel) held today (12/14), at the headquarters of the Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica (CCEE), in São Paulo (SP), the Auction of Reserve Energy (ARE no. 03/2009) for hiring energy generated by wind power. They negotiated 753 lots of 1 megawatt (MW) at an average price of R$ 148.39 MWh.  This represents a premium of 21.49% over the price cap set on notice.  The 71 winning projects will be installed in Bahia, Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul The result of the auction is available on the  webpage  of the Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica (CCEE).

At a news conference, the General Director of ANEEL, Nelson Hübner, gave a positive assessment of the auction.  ‘It’s a pleasant surprise, and soon, the wind power can compete with other sources such as biomass’, said Hübner.

It is the first time that Brazil promotes a bid for exclusive negotiating wind power.  The purchase and sale shall be valid for 20 years, from July 1st, 2012, scheduled for the beginning of the supply.
