Ceremony marks reappointment and tenure of Aneel directors

Julião Coelho took Joísa Campanher’s position and Edvaldo Santana is reappointed to the post 

Lawyer Julião Silveira Coelho took office on Wednesday (23rd) as director of the National Energy Agency (Aneel).  At the ceremony, held in the morning, in the auditorium of the Agency, director Edvaldo Alves de Santana was reappointed to the post.  The ceremony was presided by Minister of Mines and Energy, Edison Lobão, and accompanied by the executive secretary of the MME, Márcio Zimmermann, and the General Director of Aneel, Nelson Hubner.

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Edison Lobão, stressed the importance of the work of the Agency for the efficiency of the energy sector and reaffirmed his confidence in the sector.  ‘We have an electric sector which I am proud of’.  Lobão also explained that the indications for the management of regulatory agencies follow technical criteria, highlighting the stages of hearings in committees of the Senate and approval by the Senate in plenary.

In his speech, Julião Coelho stressed the importance of regulation and emphasized the need for communication with society.  ‘I shall ensure the observance of the Federal Constitution, to enforce the law and especially the dialogue with society’.

Edvaldo Santana, however, said the biggest challenge of his mandate is to simplify the way Aneel builds its regulations.  ‘The Agency, in order to be accurate, not often makes itself clear, we need to make our procedures simpler’.

Nelson Hubner welcomed fellow Board members and added that besides the challenge of making the regulations simpler, Aneel has to act to ensure the citizens’ service power distribution quality, with lower prices. ‘

Edvaldo Santana holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC).  Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Production Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), where he works as a licensed teacher. He served as superintendent of Economic Studies of Market in Aneel, from 2000 to 2005 and as director from 2005 to 2009.

Julião Silveira Coelho took over Joísa Campanher’s position whose term ended last June 22nd.  For personal reasons, she applied for a renewal to the office.  Coelho is graduated in Law from the University Center of Brasilia, UniCEUB.  He is a Federal District Attorney, joined the Federal Attorney team of Aneel, between 2002 and 2004, and served as a lawyer in legal matters pf energy.

The Board of Aneel consists of a General-Director and four directors, all appointed and nominated by the President after approval by the Senate.
