Additive term alters calculation of rate increases

The additive to the concession contracts for electricity distributors amending the calculation of rate increases was signed by 63 distribution companies operating in the country. The purpose of the additive is to change the methodology for calculating the annual rate adjustment in order to ensure the neutrality of the industry charges, preventing market variations from generating undue revenue either to concession or to consumers. The proposal approved warrants, in the rate calculation, that the gain of the revenue generated by market growth related to burden industry is fully passed on to low rates. All adjustments already made this year were performed according to the new methodology.

The proposed additive was approved in a board meeting on February 2nd this year. Previously, the amendment of contracts was the subject of Public Hearing No.  043/2009, from November 6 to 27, 2009. Sixteen contributions were received from consumers, association of distributors and representatives of the Legislative Power and consumer protection agencies.
