The energy produced by hydroelectric gives cities, states and the Union the right of Compensation for Use of Water Resources (CFURH) and to receive royalties for the generation of the Itaipu Binational Power Plant*. In 2010, we collected BRL 1.889 billion for the generation of 168 power plants. The amount was 5% higher than that collected in 2009, which was BRL 1.799 billion.
In total, 663 municipalities in 21 states and the Federal District received BRL 1.21 billion by way of compensation, while the transfer of royalties in the amount of BRL 337.47 million came from 341 municipalities in five states and the Federal District. The total received (compensation and royalties) was BRL 1.515 billion. Money can be applied in health programs, education and security, but not to cut down on debts, unless the creditor is the Union, nor to pay staff.
The sum of the CFURH and royalties for the Union was BRL 340.5 million, of which BRL 37.5 million for royalties and BRL 303 million in financial compensation. Resources are allocated to the National Water Agency (ANA), the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources and Legal Amazon (MMA) and Mines and Energy (MME).
The collection and distribution of compensation and royalties are the responsibility of the National Agency (ANEEL). The result may be accompanied by the publication of reports on the Agency website: www.aneel.gov.br , in Technical, Financial Compensation, Reports. There you can also understand more about the subject. (GL / DB)
