Brazil’s basic energy transmission grid reached 95.8 thousand (km) in 2010, with 2,524 km of lines going into operation. This growth contributed towards increasing the country’s existing transmission grid in 2009, which had 93,295.3 Km, by 2.7%.
This expansion in 2010 was driven by the conclusion of 24 undertakings, where the São João Piauí/Milagres transmission line (TL), located between Piauí and Ceará stands out. It is the largest, stretching 400 km. The second largest undertaking, the Colinas/Ribeirão Gonçalves TL, in Piauí, measures 367 km.
Other undertakings deserving mention due to their length are the LT Ribeirão Gonçalves/São João Piauí (PI) TL, at 354 km.These lines increase National Interconnected System (SIN) security. Other long lines included the Presidente Medici/Santa Cruz TL, in Rio Grande do Sul, at 233 km, and the Juba/Brasnorte C-1 and C2 TL, both at 232 km. See the list of undertakings that started operations in 2010 here.
The basic grid is the set of transmission installations that are part of the SIN and belong to public utility transmission concessionaires, in accordance with the criteria in ANEEL Resolution # 67/2004. The grid includes the transmission lines, bus bars, power transformers and substation equipment with voltage equal to or greater than 230 Kilovolts (kV) and power transformers with primary voltage equal to or greater than 230 kV and their respective connections and other connected equipment.
