Consumers of electricity received BRL 152.44 million in compensation for interruptions in electricity supply in the first half of 2010. 41.511 million compensations were paid for the breach of monthly and quarterly indicators of individual Duration of Interruption per Consumer Unit (DIC), Frequency of Interruptions of Consumer Unit (FIC) and Maximum Duration of Continuous Interruption per Consumer Unit (DMIC).
The data are part of a consolidated balance sheet by the National Energy Agency (ANEEL) from the information forwarded by 60 of the 63 distribution utilities in the country. The complete survey of compensation paid in 2010 will be released once completed. The data submitted by companies are subject to verification by the Superintendence of Electricity Service Surveillance (SFE).
The largest number of compensation occurred in the Southeast, with 16.4 million payments totaling BRL 56 million. Then comes the Northeast with 9.24 million of compensation that totaled BRL 24.42 million. Check here the amount of compensation and the amount paid by region and distribution utility.
The individual continuity limits DIC, FIC and DMIC have become more demanding since January 1st, 2010 with the publication of Resolution no. 395/2009 , which made the revision of the Procedures for Distribution of Electrical Energy in the National Electric System (Prodist). The Prodist regulates the relationship between electricity distributors and consumers and generators connected to distribution systems.
By rule, the distribution concessionaires failed to pay a fine for breach of collective continuity index (DEC and FEC). Thereafter, the amount payable by the distribution utilities in transgression of the individual indicators has become larger, which is paid in full to consumers who had exceeded their limit. Compensation must be credited to the invoice within two months after the settlement period (the computation period is the month where there were interruptions). (GL/FA)
