Plants not connected to the basic grid no longer pay for electricity losses

Plants connected directly to distribution grids* or Other Transmission Installations (DIT) are excluded from electricity loss allocations determined in the Basic Grid**, which is the set of National Interconnected System (SIN) transmission installations. This decision was taken today by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) board at a public meeting held this Tuesday (3/22). The dispatch will be published in the Federal Official Gazette.

Seventeen plants not connected to the basic grid used to participate in this allocation, since their energy served as ballast for Initial Contracts signed in 1998. Even after termination of the contracts in 2006, these plants still participated in this allocation.

In order to regulate this situation, the Agency discussed the matter with agents in Public Hearing no. 006/2011, which received 14 contributions from ten agents. In accordance with the dispatch that will be issued by the Agency, the Chamber of Electrical Energy Commercialization (CCEE) will adjust the agents’ participation model within the ambit of the Accounts and Settlement System.

A loss factor is applied to all who access the Basic Grid to share electrical losses that occur during energy transportation in the transmission system. These losses are equally shared between generators and consumption agents, in accordance with physical guarantee and verified load, respectively. (FA/GL)
