The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) denied the request for authorization by Eletrosul Centrais Elétricas S.A. to exploit six Small Hydroelectric Plants in Santa Catarina:Antoninha, Coxilha Rica, Gamba, Malacara, Santo Cristo and São Mateus.Total capacity for the small plants is 87.2 Megawatts (MW).

The board also determined opening new processes for granting authorization to locate new interested parties for these undertakings.

Eletrosul’s request was rejected because the company did not comply with the installation timetable for other small plants granted to the company. They are Barra do Rio Chapéu, with 15 MW, Pinheiro, with 10 MW, Itararé, with 9 MW, and João Borges, with 19 MW, also in Santa Catarina.

The decision was based on Normative Resolution no.395/98, which determines analyzing the interested party’s history regarding behavior and any penalties received during development of other authorization and concession processes for electric energy services. (FA/GL)
