In the first six months of this year, cities, states and the Union received BRL 816.9 million by the Financial Compensation for Use of Water Resources (CFURH) and BRL 181.3 million in royalties (financial compensation payable by the Itaipu Dam). The total compensation reached BRL 998.2 million in the period, according to data from last Thursday (06/30).
In the month of June, the two types of compensation (CFURH and royalties) totaled BRL 172.1 million. Of this amount, BRL 144.1 million related to CFURH were distributed among 663 cities in 21 states, the Federal District and the Union, while the transfer of BRL 27.9 million in royalties reached 341 municipalities in five states, the Federal District and the Union.
Municipalities are left with 45% of the collection, while another 45% goes to the states. The money can be applied in health, education and security programs, but cannot be used to shoot down debt, unless the creditor is the Union, or to pay staff.
The Union receives the remaining 10%, which are distributed to the National Water Agency (ANA), the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources and Legal Amazon (MMA) and Mines and Energy (MME).
The collection and distribution of compensation and royalties are the responsibility of the National Energy Agency (ANEEL). The result may be accompanied by the publication of reports on the Agency's website, at www.aneel.gov.br, in Technical Information, Financial Compensation, Reports.
