National installed capacity reached 114,220 MW in the first half of 2011

The installed capacity of power generation projects in operation in the country reached 114,220 megawatts (MW) in the first half of 2011, according to figures from the Information Generation Bank (BIG) of the National Energy Agency (ANEEL). The consultation held on June 30 shows the total power controlled in the country. 

In the consultation, hydroelectric plants accounted for 67.77% of the Brazilian energy matrix at the end of June. The generation of these plants gave the Union and the states and municipalities affected the payment of BRL 998.2 million in financial compensation for use of water resources, including royalties for the production of the Itaipu Dam. Read more about compensation

The second largest source with participation in the national headquarters at the end of the semester is the power plant, which accounted for 26.2% of capacity. Small Hydro Power (SHP) plants are in third place, with 3.14%. Other sources participating in the matrix are nuclear, wind and power generating plants (PGP) with 1.76%, 0.88% and 0.17% respectively.
