The board of the National Energy Agency, by majority vote, recommended that the Ministry of Mines and Energy extended the concession period of Usina Hidrelétrica Brecha, owned by company in Novelis do Brasil Ltda., with 12.4 megawatts (MW) installed capacity, located in the Piranga River, in the municipality of Guaraciaba (MG).
The grant of HPP Brecha was awarded in 1948, and renewed in 1978 for a period of 30 years, which expired on April 19, 2008. Since then, the process of the recommendation or not of the extension has been under review by ANEEL.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) is responsible for the decision to extend or not the grant of the plant in Minas Gerais. (PG/DB)
