The board of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) approved the Strategic R&D Project Call “Technical and Commercial Arrangements for the Insertion of Solar Photovoltaic Generation in the Brazilian Power Matrix”, at the public meeting held last Tuesday (02/08). The goal is to provide the technical and economic feasibility of solar photovoltaic generation in the Brazilian territory and to increase the security of the electro-energetic and diversify supply and the diversification of power sources.
The discussion on the issue was intensified in 2010 when a technical committee was created, comprising the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT), ANEEL and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). The goal of this committee is to promote scientific and technological solutions and innovations to meet the country’s needs concerning the electricity sector and the national development.
The objectives of strategic R&D project call include the generation of solar photovoltaic power in the Brazilian power matrix, stimulate cost reduction of solar generation, and encourage the development of the entire production chain of the solar photovoltaic industry in Brazil with the nationalization of the technology employed.
Contrary to what occurs with other R&D projects, proposals for strategic projects include a mandatory initial on-site evaluation and monitoring of the implementation of the project through regular meetings.
The call will be published in the Official Gazette in the coming days and is available here or on ANEEL’s website (http://www.aneel.gov.br), on Education/Research and Development, Research and Development, Topics for Investment in R&D. (PG/GL).
