TPP Figueira, granted to Copel Geração e Transmissão S.A, was authorized by the National Energy Agency (ANEEL) to modernize its facilities. According to the decision taken at board meeting last Tuesday (08/09), a new generating unit of 20 megawatts (MW) and other auxiliary equipment may be installed in addition to the deactivation of the units currently in operation.
TPP Figueira, currently with an installed capacity of 20 MW, consists of two generating units that use coal as energy source. Copel filed for ANEEL in claiming that the plant has become inefficient due to the time of use of equipment. The company said the plant has an average yield of about 14.24%, high consumption of water for cooling the generating units and, in addition, cannot comply with the environmental legislation, especially regarding emissions of sulfur dioxide. The plant is located in the municipality of Figueira, in the state of Paraná. (PG/GL)
