The Power Auction 003/2011 (Reserve), promoted by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) last Thursday (08/18), sold an average 460.4 megawatts (avg. MW) of 41 plants, of which 34 are wind power plants and seven are biomass plants, supply starting as of July 1, 2014. The power of the 41 plants totals 1,218.1MW.
The total investment total for implementation of the plants contracted at the auction is approximately R$3.26 billion.

The bid was held via Internet, operated from the headquarters of the Electricy Power Commercialization Chamber (CCEE). The Director General of ANEEL, Nelson Hübner, celebrated the auction’s result. "I am surprised with the prices and I am sure that it will have positive effects to power consumers", he stated.

The average price for the sale of power per megawatt-hour (MWh) was R$99.61, with an average discount of 31.8% in relation to the ceiling price, which was R$146.00/MWh.　This discount represents savings of R$3.7 billion in power costs.

The power negotiated will be subject to a Reserve Power Agreement (CER), in the power amount* modality, signed between the seller and CCEE.

A-3 Auction –Last Wednesday (08/17), ANEEL held the Power Auction 002/2011 (A-3), with the sale of 1,543.8 average megawatts (avg. MW) of 51 plants, of which one is a hydropower plant (HPP Jirau), 44 are wind plants, two are natural gas thermal power plants and four are biomass plants. The average price was R$102.7/MWh, with an average discount of 26.6% in relation to the ceiling price, which was R$139.00/MWh. Read more. (FA/IW/GL)
