From March 2008 to June 2011, the National Energy Agency (ANEEL) accounted for 774 energy efficiency projects submitted by the concessionaires, with investments of BRL 1.8 billion. These projects involve initiatives related to solar heating, municipal energy management, cogeneration, among others. In all, there was energy savings of 1.82 million MWh/year.
Considering the average consumption of 150 kWh/month per consumer unit, the savings from the projects are equivalent to the consumption of 1 million units by consumers per year. In addition, the implementation of projects has reduced demand at peak hours (between 6pm and 9pm) to about 611 800 kilowatts (kW), which helps to reduce the need for investment in expanding the supply.
In the same period, they also carried out replacement or installation of equipment to combat the waste of energy. Between actual and projected values, the exchange of nearly 500 thousand refrigerators stands out, in addition to distribution of 14 million CFLs.
The distributors (concessionaires or authorizing bodies) must apply annually at least 0.5% of their net operating revenue in actions that aim to combat the waste of electricity. The obligation is set in the concession and permission signed by distributors and Law 9.991/200, consisting of the Energy Efficiency Program of Distribution Companies (EPE).
Projects can be presented to ANEEL at any time via electronic files. Applicants must follow the guidelines set forth in the Manual for the Energy Efficiency Program (MPEE), 2008 Version. Check here the manual. Check out the details of projects and investments. (PG/SD/GL).
