Hearing session on modernization of the thermoelectric park has new date

Fonte: ANEEL

The date for the presential public hearing to discuss the review of Normative Resolution no. 129/2004 on reimbursement for fuels for thermoelectric plants that use domestic coal was changed by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL). The session, previously set for September 29, will take place on the following day (9/30) from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

The proposal under discussion aims at stimulating the modernization of these plants and improving the respective reimbursement mechanism in the Energy Development Account (CDE). For the norm review to obtain the best results, such as efficiency of the coal generator park in Brazil, the Agency determined the operating condition of the plants and in the first semester of 2008 it conducted technical visits to all of the country's existing coal generator plants at the time, including some of their mines, which are concentrated in the south.

The outdated technology at the generator plants, plus the coal prices and type of exploration used in most mines, creates economic losses for the CDE due to the high consumption of coal, and harms the environment due to the air emissions at the plants.

The CDE was created on April 26, 2002, by Law no. 10.438, to stimulate energy development in States and the competitiveness of energy produced from domestic coal in areas served by the interconnected systems, lasting 25 years. Reimbursements for fuel costs at thermoelectric plants are made through this account to domestic coal.

The technical note and other documents related to the matter are available at the Agency website (www.aneel.gov.br) on the link audiências/consultas/fórum. Those interested in contributing to the process can send contributions until October 14 to the email ap043_2011@aneel.gov.br, or by fax at (61) 2192-8839 or by mail, at SGAN 603 – Módulo I – Térreo / Protocolo Geral da ANEEL, CEP 70.830-030, Brasília (DF).
