Transparency at the regulatory agencies was the topic of debate this Wednesday (9/29) at the VII Brazilian Congress on the Regulation of Granted Public Services promoted by the Brazilian Regulatory Agencies Association (ABAR).The event gathers representatives from the regulatory agencies throughout the country until next Friday (9/23) in Brasília (DF).
While participating at the event, the director-general of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL), Nelson Hubner, mentioned some of the actions adopted at the Agency to provide transparency to processes and encourage society’s participation. These actions include the board’s public meetings, transmitted over the Internet, the sector ombudsman, the public hearings and consultations, as well as the ANEEL website and news agency (Click Energy), created in February 2011.
The director affirmed that advertising the information is a fundamental aspect for the agencies and underscored the importance of the event as an opportunity to exchange knowledge.“The experience at the agencies is new and the population still does not understand the role of regulatory entities very well, but that will happen with time. This exchange of knowledge is essential for our maturing,” he said.
The Congress began last Tuesday (9/20) and it had the participation of the Governor of the Federal District, Agnelo Queiroz, the President of the Regulatory Agency for Water, Energy and Sanitation of the Federal District (ADASA), Vinicius Benevides, and the Director-General of ANEEL, representing the oldest regulatory agency. The Congress’ organization expects to receive 1000 congress members and 2000 guests over the three day event.
Besides the lectures, stands were also set up with exhibits of videos and printed material from the regulatory agencies. (PG/GL).
