Contracts for the first transmission auction of 2011 are signed

The concession contracts for installing transmission enterprises auctioned on June 10 of this year (Transmission Auction no.01/2011) were signed today (10/13), in a ceremony at the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) headquarters.

The contracts were signed by the representatives of the auction winners and ANEEL's general director, Nelson Hübner. The auction’s average discount was 53.27%.Permitted Annual Revenues (PAR)* for those companies that will run the enterprises auctioned in three lots was projected at R$ 93.6 million, a sum that was closed at R$ 49.9 million with conclusion of the auction. This difference will contribute to tariff modicity since transmission company revenue is one of the components of energy costs.

The three lots for the enterprises will integrate the Basic Grid of the National Interconnected System (SIN), together with transmission installations of exclusive interest to generation centrals (ICG)* that commercialize energy at reserve (no.05/2010) and alternative source (no.07/2010). See the results for the three lots below: A, Band C.

These ICG are needed to flow the wind energy sold in alternative source and reserve energy auctions of August 2010, which resulted in contracting 1,206.6 MW of power installed in Bahia, Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte.

The works will generate nearly 4,500 direct jobs and demand investments to the order of R$ 750 million.Projected startup for the installations is 22 months after signing the contract, which was done today.(DB/PG)

*Permitted Annual Revenue (RAP) – is the annual revenue to which the transmitter will have rights for providing the public transmission service to users, after startup of commercial operations at the installations. The value is the one obtained as a result of the auction, updated annually by the Broad-based Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and reviewed every five years, as per the terms of the concession contract.

**TRANSMISSION INSTALLATIONS OF EXCLUSIVE INTEREST TO GENERATION PLANTS FOR SHARED CONNECTION (ICG) – Transmission installations and equipment, not part of the BASIC GRID and the other transmission installations, for shared access of generation plants using wind, biomass or small hydroelectric plants connected to the basic grid.
