The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) collegiate board approved this Tuesday (10/18) the result and awarding of the Energy Auction no.002/2011 (A-3), held on 8/17, in which 1,543.8 average megawatts (average MW) were commercialized from 51 plants, including one hydroelectric plant (HEP Jirau), 44 wind energy plants and two natural gas and four biomass thermoelectric plants.
Ratification was initially projected for November 3, 2011, but it was moved up.According to the estimated timetable, authorization approvals are scheduled for 4/2/2012. At the last meeting, 10/11, the board ratified the result and awarded the Reserve Energy Auction (Auction no.003/2011). Read more.
In Auction no.002/2011, the power from the 51 plants totaled 2,744.6 MW.Renewable sources were responsible for 62% of the contracts, compared to 32% for the fossil sources.Total investments for installing plants contracted in the auction reach around R$ 6.54 billion.
The energy sales price for the quantity product (expansion of the HEP Jirau) was R$ 102.00 per megawatt-hour (MWh).For the availability product (wind energy plants, biomass and natural gas thermoelectric plants) the average price was R$ 102.7/MWh, with an average discount of 26.6% in relation to the ceiling price, which was R$ 139.00/MWh.

The duration of contracts for energy negotiated by the hydroelectric plants will be 30 years.For the wind energy and biomass and natural gas thermoelectric plant contracts will last 20 years.The projection for beginning supply of negotiated contracts is March 1, 2014. (GL/PG/MR).
