Readjustment of CERR is approved but cannot be applied

The executive board of the National Energy Agency (ANEEL) approved on Tuesday (10/25) in a public meeting, the annual rate adjustment Companhia Energética de Roraima(CERR). The new index should become effective on 11/01, however, the distributor can only apply the readjustment when proving the settlement of debts relating to payment of charges in the electricity sector.

The average effect to be perceived by captive consumers (high and low voltage) when the readjustment of the distributor is authorized will be 19.56%. CERR has headquarters in the city of Boa Vista and serves 30,800 consumer units in the state of Roraima.

The impediment to adjustment by reason of default provided in Article 10 of Law No. 8.631/93, which provides for the setting of rate levels for the public power. Thus, the concessionaire can only apply the approved rates when it meets its sector obligations.

In calculating the readjustment rates, the Agency considers the variation in costs that the company had during the reference period. The formula includes typical costs of distribution activity, which the IGP-M and the X Factor* focus on, and other costs that do not necessarily accompany inflation rate, such as power purchased from generators, transmission charges and industry charges.

The application of the annual readjustment and of the rate revision is foreseen in the permission contracts signed between the cooperatives and the federal government, through ANEEL. The rates approved by the Agency are the limits to be charged by the cooperatives. Read more about the rate updating processes at www.aneel.gov.br, in Consumer’s Space, Rates – Final Consumers.

More information about the rate readjustment processes can also be found on the ANEEL’s website, consumer’s space profile, in the booklet "Questions and Answers on charges of power distributors." (FA/GL)
