The National System Operator (ONS) is authorized to maintain the use of values of the Risk Aversion Curves (CAR) of the Southeast/Midwest, South and Northeast regions for the period from 01/01/2011 to 12/31/2012 set out in Authorizing Resolution No.2.658/2010. The decision was approved by the board last Tuesday (10/25).

The Risk Aversion Curve is a mechanism that determines the minimum level of storage reservoirs necessary for the production of hydroelectric energy safely for the National Interconnected System. Established by Resolution No. 109/2002, the Management Board of the Electrical Energy Crisis (GCE), acts as a flag of any risks of energy shortages caused by changes in storage volume of reservoirs of hydroelectric plants.

With the decision made last Tuesday (10/25), Public Hearing No. 037/2011, which discussed the issue, was closed. The purpose of the meeting was to review the values of the CAR, aiming to change forecasts of entry into commercial operation of several thermoelectric power plants located in the Northeast and Southeast regions. According to Normative Resolution No. 212/2006, although the CAR happen biannually, they must be updated annually. As the CAR revised would only be used in December 2011, the board decided to avoid the wear of successive revisions in a short time and kept the values of Resolution No. 2.658/10. (PG/GL).
