The National Energy Agency (ANEEL) has started a public hearing session with onsite presence in several capitals, to hear the society out about the transfer of public lighting assets of companies to municipalities, according to article 218 of Resolution. 414/2010. In Recife, the session is scheduled for 11/04, from 2pm to 6pm in the Auditorium Theatre of the Federal University of Pernambuco, located on Avenida dos Reitores, Cidade Universitária.

In Article 218, ANEEL established deadlines for distributors to prove the submission of the proposed transfer of public lighting assets for the municipal government of its concession area, as determined by constitutional provision. However, some municipalities have claimed lack of being able to take over the management of those assets. A survey conducted by ANEEL in June shows that 63.8% of municipalities in the country already account for the assets, whereas, in the remaining 36.2%, the transfer must be effected. Check here the status of ownership of assets.

As the mayors pointed out the lack of financial conditions of municipalities to pay for the maintenance of public lighting infrastructure, the Agency decided to suspend the deadline until the end of the public hearing process on 12/09. Read more here

The first onsite session on the subject was held in Manaus (AM), on 10/19, and the next will be in the following capital cities: São Paulo, on 11/17, and Belo Horizonte (MG), on 11/24.

Those interested in contributing to the process of transferring the assets may submit proposals to the e-mail address ap049_2011art218@aneel.gov.br. Contributions can also be sent by fax (55 61) 2192-8839 or to the Agency’s address (SGAN, Quadra 603, Módulo I, Térreo, Protocolo Geral, CEP: 70830-030), in Brasília (DF).
