The board of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) will be voting next Tuesday (11/8) on the new rules for the revision of electricity tariff to consumers, at a public meeting to be held at 9 AM, at the mini-auditorium of ANEEL, in Brasília (DF). The meeting will be broadcast on the Internet on www.aneel.gov.br.

The subject was submitted to public hearing (AP 040/2010) from 9/10/2010 to 10/20/2010 (second stage) and 3/16/2011 to 6/3/2011 (second stage) and received 155 contributions.

Tariff revision occurs on average every four years and is necessary to maintain the economic and financial balance of the distributors that supply power to households, industries, and trade.

This will be the third time the review is applied to the tariffs (3rd Cycle of Periodic Tariff Revision). The previous cycles occurred from 2003 to 2006 (1st cycle) and from 2007 to 2010 (2nd cycle). The 3rd cycle will be implemented from 2012 to 2014.

The revision and the annual adjustment are provided in the concession agreements signed between the Federal Government and the distributors. The adjustment is not applied in years when the distributors’ tariffs undergo revision. (GL/FA) .
