On 11/17 and 18, the city of São Luís (MA) will host the XIII National Meeting of the Board of Power Consumers. This year, the event is coordinated by Companhia Energética do Maranhão (CEMAR).

The main event will be subject of Resolution No. 451/2011, a standard recently approved and which brings innovations to the council. In addition, the meeting will discuss issues such as renewal of concessions, the judiciary's relationship with the consumer, changes in social rates, smart grid and comparative study of electricity rates in Brazil and worldwide. Check here the event schedule.

The goal is to enable representatives of the council on issues in the electricity sector in order to generate a more effective participation of consumers in decision-making processes of the Agency and the sector.

The councils are composed of representatives of each class of use (rural, residential, industrial and government) in order to guide, analyze and evaluate issues related to supply, prices and adequacy of electricity services provided to final consumers.

Currently, almost all the 63 energy distributors of the country have a board of consumers, but with the publication of the new Resolution No. 451/2011, those should not have to deploy it until November 30.

The operation of the Consumer Council is supported by the Agency since 1998, the year when the First National Meeting with representatives of the boards of all distributors was held in Brasilia. Read more about the Consumer Council here . (PG/GL).
