ANEEL holds hearing on transfer of public lighting assets in São Paulo

The National Energy Agency (ANEEL) opened public hearing session with presence in several capitals to hear the society about the transfer of public lighting assets from companies to municipalities, according to article 218 of Resolution No. 414/2010 . In São Paulo, the session is scheduled for 11/17, from 2pm to 6pm, in the Union of Electrical Workers, located at Rua Thomaz Gonzaga in the neighborhood of Liberty.

In Article 218, ANEEL established deadlines for distributors to prove the submission of the proposed transfer of public lighting assets for the municipal government of its concession area, as determined by constitutional provision. However, some municipalities have claimed lack of conditions to take over the management of those assets. A survey conducted by ANEEL in June shows that 63.8% of municipalities in the country already account for the assets, while in the remaining 36.2%, the transfer must be effected. See here the situation of ownership of assets.

As the mayors pointed out to lack of financial conditions of municipalities to pay for the maintenance of public lighting infrastructure, the Agency decided to suspend the deadline until the end of the public hearing process on 12/09. Read more here

The first onsite sessions on the subject were held in Manaus (10/19) and Recife (11/04). After São Paulo, there will be another session in Belo Horizonte (11/24).

Those interested in contributing to the process of transferring the assets may submit proposals to the e-mail ap049_2011art218@aneel.gov.br. Contributions can also be sent by fax (55 61) 2192-8839 or to the Agency’s address (SGAN, Quadra 603, Módulo I, Térreo, Protocolo Geral, CEP: 70.830-030), in Brasília (DF). (DB/BT/GL)
