São Roque power plant has feasibility study approved

The National Energy Agency (ANEEL) approved the feasibility study of Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) São Roque, planned to be built on the Canoas river, in Santa Catarina. The Superintendent of Hydroenergetic Management and Research (SGH) has published the decision in Order No. 4564 in the Official Journal on Wednesday (11/30).

The plant is expected to have an installed capacity of 135 megawatts (MW), with a physical guarantee of 90.9 average megawatts (MWmed). It stands out because its reservoir holds points up to 14 feet deep – feature rarely viable in power plants today. The area flooded by the reservoir is 45.9 km2, giving a ratio of flooded area/installed capacity of 0.34 km²/MW.

With the approval of the studies, this energy can be sold in the next new energy auction, scheduled for completion on 12/20. The start of commercial operation of the first generating unit is scheduled for 01/01/2016. (BT/DB).
