The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) submitted to public hearing a proposal for revision of the Risk Aversion Curves (CAR) of the South, Southeast/Center-West, Northwest and North regions for the period 2012-2013. The proposal is available for review Hearing/Reviews/Forumon the Agency’s website (www.aneel.gov.br). The period for submission of written contributions to the hearing starts today (12/8) and ends on 12/23.
Click hereto see the curve revision proposal for each of the four subsystems. For the North subsystem, the technical area suggests that the curve should not be used, as it believes that local thermal generation has never been a requirement for the existence of an aversion curve in the subsystem, since power needs could be supplied with the increase of receipt, via exchange of power between the subsystems.
The Risk Aversion Curve is a mechanism that establishes the minimum storage level of the hydropower plants’ reservoirs, necessary for safe power production for the National Interconnected System. Instituted by Resolution 109/2002, by the Electric Power Crisis Management Chamber (GCE), it works as a flag for occasional power shortage risks caused by changes in the storage volume of the hydropower plants’ reservoirs.
