The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) has approved the hydropower inventory studies for the Jari River Basin, which forms the natural border between the states of Pará and Amapá. The decision was published by the Hydropower Management and Study Superintendence (SGH) on the Official Gazette of 12/9, through Order 4,757.
Jari River is an important left bank tributary of the Amazon River. Its basin has a drainage area of approximately 57,000km2. Prepared by the Empresa de Pesquisa Elétrica – EPE, the inventory studies total about 1,362 megawatts (MW) in inventoried power, divided into three development areas along the course of the main river. The facility Açaipé B, the largest identified, has 831.1MW in installed power. The other two, Urucupatá and Carecuru, have 291.5MW and 240.2MW, respectively.
With the approval of these studies, the hydroelectric facilities identified will be included in the portfolio of plants available for preparation of feasibility studies and the basic project.
The inventory studies already approved by ANEEL, as well as the list of studies under analysis, are available for research on the Agency’s website on Hydropower Inventoriesand Study and Project Monitoring.(BT).
