Rates in the industry are set by ANEEL

Updated Reference Rate (ART), used in the calculation of Compensation for Use of Water Resources (CFURH) for hydroelectric generation will have its value adjusted from BRL 68.34 per megawatt hour (MWh) to BRL 72.87/MWh as of 01/01/2012.The readjustment of 6.64% was approved by the board of the National Energy Agency (ANEEL), at its meeting today (12/13), due to the variation of the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) occurred between December 2010 and November this year.

The new value of the TAR in 2012 will impact the resources that will be paid by electricity generators to the Union, 21 states, the Federal District and the 634 municipalities as compensation for the flooding of areas for hydroelectric plants.

TEO – The Energy Rate Optimization (TEO) was fixed by the Board of ANEEL, also at today's meeting, at BRL 9.58/MWh.The new rate will take effect on 01/01/2012.

The rate of optimization is intended to cover the incremental costs of operating and maintaining the hydroelectric plants and the payment of compensation on energy exchanged in the Reallocation Mechanism (ERM)* of Trade Chamber (CCEE).

TSA – The Agency also approved the Ancillary Services Rate (TSA) that will rise from BRL 4.44 by megavar-hour (MVArh) to BRL 4.73/MVArh.The TSA, which will take effect from 01/01/2012, serves to compensate the additional costs of operation and maintenance of generating units that are requested by the Independent System Operator (ONS) to operate as synchronous condensers.(DB/BT)

* Reallocation Mechanism (ERM) – the risk sharing mechanism between hydrological generation agents. It aims to mitigate the business risk of a plant to generate less electricity than their physical security, sharing the risk among all participants of this hydroelectric facility.
