The minimum energy price sold in the short-term market (minimum PLD) will be updated on 1/1/2012 to R$ 12.2 per megawatt-hour (MWh).The maximum Settlement Price for Differences (maximum PLD) will be readjusted to R$ 727.52/MWh.These new values were approved on Tuesday (12/13) by the ANEEL board.
Minimum PLD is calculated based on estimated variable cost for operation at the Itaipu Bi-national Hydroelectric Plant, considering the prorated energy Paraguay grants Brazil, plus the daily geometric average of the PTAX closing exchange rates for the American dollar, published by the Central Bank from the period of December 1 of the previous year to November 30 of the year of calculation.
Correction of the maximum PLD corresponds to the lowest value between maximum PLD for the previous year corrected by the General Price Index – Domestic Availability (IGP-DI) and the structural prices for the most expensive thermoelectric plant, with installed capacity greater than 65 megawatts (MW), included in the Monthly Electrical Energy Operation Program (PMO) of the National Operator System (ONS) for December 2011, since January's value will only be available the last week of December.
Electric energy deficit cost –The ANEEL board also authorized updating the Cost Curve for the Electric Energy Deficit Cost for 2012 using the Getúlio Vargas Foundation’s IGP-DI, which accumulated an increase of approximately 5.56% between November 2010 and November 2011. The energy deficit cost is an important parameter in planning the operation of the National Interconnected System (SIN), because it is a determining factor in marginal cost formation for operations (CMO) and consequently the short-term market prices (PLD).Deficit cost shall reflect, in practice, how much it costs for society to have an insufficient supply of electric energy.(DB/BT/MS)
