The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) has approved the basic projects of the Hydropower Plant (HPP) Santo Domingo, in Mato Grosso do Sul, and the Small Hydropower Plant (SHP) Santa Rosa I, located in municipalities in Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Orders 562 and 561, which formalize the approval, were published on 2/16 on the Official Gazette (DOU).

Planned to be built on the Verde River, in the municipalities of Água Clara and Ribas do Rio Pardo (MS), the HPP Santo Domingo was auctioned in 2002, before the new sector model defined by Act 10,848/2004. As a result, its installation license (a certificate attesting the environmental viability of the enterprise) was granted only in 2009. The plant, to be administered by Eletrosul Centrais Elétricas S./A., will have an installed capacity of 48 megawatts (MW) and will be interconnected to the National Interconnected System (SIN).

The SHP Santa Rosa I is located in the cities of Belmiro Braga, in Minas Gerais, and Rio das Flores, in Rio de Janeiro. The plant will have an installed capacity of 16.9MW. The basic project was prepared by the Santa Rosa Energética S./A. (BT/PG)
